NEMS Enterprises, Brian Epstein’s company, promoted two shows on consecutive nights, showcasing Joe Brown and the Bruvvers, and The Beatles. This was the first of the two nights.
Brown was at number three in the UK singles chart at this time with A Picture Of You. It was one of Epstein’s favourite pop songs, and was also part of The Beatles’ own stage act, on which George Harrison took lead vocals.
This was the group’s only performance at Cambridge Hall, on Lord Street in Southport, Lancashire. The building was later revamped and renamed as the Southport Arts Centre.
